Mosaic Trader UK are pleased to support the BAMM (British Association of Modern Mosaic) MEGA MOSAIC MAKERS competition, sponsored by Topps Tiles. The first ever competition was in 2008 and was open to Primary Schools throughout the UK, with total prizes of £2,500. The standard was very high and we know that all the mosaics will be a source of pride for years to come.
Judging took place early in December 2008. In reaching their decision, the judges tried to balance several factors; they wanted to recognise those projects which were clearly driven by the original ideas of the children whilst also wanting to reward the high quality of execution and finish that so many mosaics displayed. It was important that adult help was evidently given with a light touch.
There were ninety entries, all made by school groups. The winning entries were - First prize: St Bernadette's School, Second prize: Hiltingbury Infants School and Third prize: Wendron C of E School.
Vouchers were delivered/presentations took place in January 2009.
The competition is running again in 2009 and we encourage all schools to plan now for entry. Mosaics made in the last three years may be submitted but may only be entered into this competition once.
Details of this year's competition can be found at megamosaicmakers.org.uk
Hints on materials, techniques and mosaic making in schools can be found in the Schools Section of the BAMM website. |

The participants were involved in every stage of the project. The theme is a storyboard depicting the dreams and aspirations for the new community centre - 'The Weir Link' - and the surrounding area.
